A Partnership Between Missoula Christian Outreach Center
and Area Congregations

  • Mentor Team Ministry has a very simple structure:

Christian outreach develops partnerships with area churches, developing a network of congregational teams to provide care and support to members of a congregation or community who are in need.

  • Mentor Team Ministry has a very simple structure:

    Christian outreach develops partnerships
with area churches, developing a network of
congregational teams to provide care and
support to members of a congregation or community who are in need.

Each congregational team is led by a lay team
leader and supported by the church's pastor.

Each mini team is then commissioned to care for one family or person in need.

The mini team is supported by the congregational team and the congregational team is supported by the Christian Outreach Center.

Members, through the Christian Outreach Center, receive the benefits of a thorough orientation and client specific training dealing with topics such as
promoting job preparation, work, and marriage.

The Christian Mentor Team duties are based on two equal considerations:

What the person or family needs or wants.

What the volunteers can do, based on time, availability and skills.

  • What is the Christian Mentors Team's Role?

The Christian mentor team is like extended family and friends. A Christian mentor team offers three basic types of support:

l Practical support includes doing tasks for a
    family or person in need.
l Emotional Support includes doing things with the person or family in need; common acts of friendship.
l Spiritual Support may include the prayers of the Christian mentor team or the sharing of thoughts and beliefs. Such support is done at the request of the person in need.

Team Ministry work?

Mentor Team members make a commitment
to call, visit, write or do other activities within their comfort level.

Each month, Christian Mentor team members meet to review their ministries and the services provided.

  • What needs do we respond to?

The need might be support during a personal family crisis, practical support, spiritual support, or maybe just being a friend.

The person or family in need and the Christian Mentor team leaders meet to discuss the needs. The Mentor Leaders cooridinate the volunteers to ensure service is provided.

What is the role of The Missoula Christian Outreach Center?

The Christian Outreach Center is committed
to provide general training and support for the congregational teams.

The support includes assistance in the organization of this program and coordination
of general and specialized training responsive
to the needs of the Congregational team.

Our objectives are to assist needy families
with children so that children can be cared
for in their own homes. It reduces dependency
by promoting job preparation, work, and
marriage. The program also aims to reduce
and prevent out-of-wedlock pregnancies and to encourage the formation and maintenance of two-parent families.

We assist the homeless and unemployed
with basic life skills to obtain a career and
enable displaced persons who have been dependent on income of others to become independent and improve their quality of
living through the assistance of teachers
and volunteer Christian mentors who treat
people with Love, Dignity and Respect.

  • MENTOR TEAM MINISTRY IS:

A partnership between the Christian Outreach Center and Area congregations.

When Christian outreach helps congregations form and maintain
Mentor Teams to help anyone with
    special needs.

A program that responds free of
charge to the "quality of life" needs of individuals not routinely provided by existing social service programs.
  • WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Anyone can do it. The simple structure makes it easy to get involved and
easy to stay involved. Because the ministry responds to individuals through
a team effort, there is less burden on
    the individual mentor and greater
    benefits to those being served.

MENTOR TEAMS PROVIDE

Assistance to find existing social services.
AWANA children programs.
Ways to reduce welfare dependency.
Counseling for career planning.
Temporary assistance for needy families.
